We are extremely sad to announce that our founder and life-long president, Baroness Sue Masham of Ilton, passed away peacefully at Northallerton Hospital on Sunday 12 March.
Everyone here at the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) is devastated to have lost our greatest advocate. Forty-nine years ago, in 1974, Baroness Masham founded SIA in her words to “help individuals achieve their own goals, and to choose and realise their own ways of living, and to strive for the best possible care and rehabilitation”. Her vision is the reason we have been able to champion, fight, serve and support tens of thousands of spinal cord injured people ever since.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family at this sad time and are extremely touched that the family have asked for donations in memory to go to SIA. We commit to ensuring every penny is invested in supporting a new generation of spinal cord injured people and their families, to achieve her vision of a fulfilled life for everyone affected by spinal cord injury.
"To Sue, a very special person, with happy memories and very many thanks for her friendship over many years". Roisin
"In memory of my dear Godmother Auntie Sue. I will miss the twinkle in your eye and your radiant smile, but I will keep the wonderful memories. A true inspiration in every way." Catherine Mwamatandala
